What is HEVC?

The successor to H.264, High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC/H.265) is the latest video compression standard that promises to deliver visual quality equivalent to H.264/AVC with up to 50% bitrate savings. Videos encoded with DivX HEVC will maintain the high-quality of DivX Plus, but at a smaller file size. Once HEVC is widely adopted by users and the companies that distribute video and manufacturer devices, we can look forward to a host of benefits that will improve the way we consume digital video at home and on the go.

Why do I need DivX HEVC Plug-in?

With video consumption increasing, Ultra HD TVs hitting the market and a general rise in our expectations of our video entertainment, the time is ripe for DivX 10’s free DivX HEVC Plug-in for Windows and Mac. The new HEVC standard offers the same quality video at up to half the file size of H.264 video. Smaller files are important for building a digital video collection, but also when streaming that latest YouTube cat video to your phone. The smaller size makes the video easier to transfer over an already congested mobile network, and for you it means a better quality video streaming experience on your mobile phone. Furthermore, HEVC is required for the delivery of 4K footage (3840x2160 pixels, about twice the resolution and with about four times as many pixels as 1080p HD video) to new Ultra HD television sets.

HEVC is the no longer the “next generation video codec.” It’s here today—brought to you by DivX.[DivX][DivX Labs]
